John is the Chairman of the Bank. John is a lifelong resident of Charleston, South Carolina. John is an attorney and owner of the Chakeris Law Firm practicing primarily in the areas of construction litigation and real estate transactional work. The firm's construction practice represents homeowners throughout coastal South Carolina. John is a member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and is frequently asked to lecture on construction defects; John's strong ties to the Charleston community will be invaluable to the Bank.
Tommy David is the Vice-Chairman of the Bank. Tommy, age 54, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of First Southern Bancorp and First Southern National Bank. He had over 25 years of banking experience with Synovus Financial Corp., where he retired from Sea Island Bank in 1997. Other than First Southern National Bank, Mr. David has served on the Board of Directors of six different banks. Mr. David graduated from the University of Georgia in 1972 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He is also a graduate of the Louisiana State University Banking School of the South and was an instructor of the Georgia Bankers Association Commercial Lending School. Mr. David presently serves on the Board of Trustees of Georgia Southern University Foundation and the Ogeechee Technical College Foundation. He is the Chairman of the Board of East Georgia Regional Medical Center, Vice Chairman of the Board of Ogeechee Technical College, President of the United Way of Southeast Georgia and Chairman of the 2003-2004 United Way Campaign. He is on the Board of Directors of the Statesboro-Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Rotary Club of Statesboro. Mr. David is a recipient of the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award and the Georgia Technical College Foundation Association Pacesetter Award. He is an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Statesboro, where he serves on the Board of Trustees.
Chief Executive Officer and President of Atlantic Bank and Trust. Mr. Cobb is also an experienced banker with 9 years of experience in the following key positions of responsibility: City Executive, Commercial Lender, and Small Business Banking Manager. He has large bank experience in the Florence and Charleston market areas with nationally chartered banks. He is a graduate of The Citadel, The University of South Carolina and The Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He is active in the Charleston Chamber of Commerce and the Golden Retriever Rescue, and other civic organizations in the Charleston community. In May of 2005, Mr. Cobb was honored as the local Charleston Business Journal's designated "40 under 40" honorees.
Neal is the co-founder and CEO of W2Freedom, LLC and Community Bank Strategic Equity Fund. The fund is slightly over $120MM. From 1990 to 2005, Neal served as the Chief Financial Officer of Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition, Neal also served as the head of the Asset Management / Brokerage / Investment Advisors Division, Mortgage Banking and Consumer Lending Divisions, and the FTPS (Payment Processing) Division at Fifth Third Bank. Neal also started a denovo bank in 1990 in St. Paul, MN, of which he is a large shareholder. Which he is a large shareholder in. Neal moved to Kiawah in 2005 and is married with two children. Neal's experience will be invaluable to the bank as it plans for future growth and ensuring profitability.
A native Charlestonian, Thomas began his career in residential real estate over 30 years ago and has been one of the city's top producers since he first entered the field. Specializing in Charleston's famed Historic District, he has a keen interest in historic preservation and architecture and was the first realtor to sell a home in Charleston for over 1 million dollars. Thomas has represented numerous attorneys and financial institutions in listing estate properties, and he enjoys good relationships with other Brokers in most metropolitan cities. He has served on the following boards: Charleston Preservation Society, Charleston Orphan House, Carolina Youth Development Center, Historic Charleston Foundation and the Gibbes Museum of Art.
Brent Case is a Charleston resident and co-owner of Atlantic International dba Coldwell Banker Commercial, a commercial real estate brokerage firm located in North Charleston and the largest number of commercial agents in the tri-county area. Brent is a graduate of Xavier College, located in Ohio. Brent is active in the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, was named one of the Charleston Business Journal's 40 under 40 in 2003, and is well known and respected in his community. Brent's talent, organizational skills background and understanding of the market will be immeasurable in calculating character / conditions of future clients.
Charles T. "Charlie" Cole, Jr., is a retired Regional President of Wachovia Bank of South Carolina with over 30 years of banking experience. Charlie's commitment to non-profits has been amply demonstrated during his many years of philanthropic involvement. Currently, Charlie serves on the boards of The Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties, The Citadel Foundation, South Carolina Independent Colleges, USC Associates (past president), and the Palmetto Richland Hospital Foundation. During past years, Charlie has served on sixteen additional non-profits boards, including the South Carolina Museum Foundation, the Columbia Museum of Art, and the Gibbes Art Museum. Charlie has been honored to have been designated Volunteer of the Year by both the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia chapter of the Professional Fund Raising Association. Charlie graduated from The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, from Louisiana State University's Banking School of the South, and the University of North Carolina's Executive Program.
Toya Green is an Attorney / Member and founder of Hampton Green, LLC. Mrs. Green focuses on real estate transactions and probate administration. She is a member of the Charleston County School Board, is serving as the Treasurer of the Executive Committee of the South Carolina's Women Lawyer's Association and is a member of the South Carolina Bar Real Estate Practice Group. In addition, Mrs. Green has served on the Executive Committee of the Charleston County Bar. Mrs. Green's civic involvements include serving as the Chair of the Charleston Board of Architectural Review, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, and Trident United Way. Mrs. Green was recognized as one of "Forty Under Forty" for her outstanding leadership in the Charleston business Community to May 2004 and also in the Charleston Post & Courier as one of "Twenty Women Under Forty Working Towards Brilliant Futures." Mrs. Green's market knowledge and many contacts statewide will be highly beneficial to the bank's success.
Peggy's experience includes being a Commercial Lender with SunTrust Bank in Orlando, Florida and 14 years at Wachovia Bank primarily in Charleston, SC. She spent 10 years as a Regional Commercial Segment Manager with Wachovia Bank in Charleston. In addition, Peggy was CEO and President of Atlantic Savings Bank, headquartered in Hilton Head Island, SC. She graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL with a BS in Chemistry and an MBA with a concentration in finance. Peggy's tenure in the banking world in Charleston is extensive. Her contacts and the knowledge of the market will be very beneficial.
Chris Landers is the Chief Mortgage Officer of the Bank. Mr. Landers is also an experienced lender with 13 years of financial experience. He has vast mortgage operations and management and productions experience as he has successfully owned and operated East Bay Capital Mortgage over the past 6 years. East Bay Capital, Inc is a successful mortgage company located in downtown Charleston that specializes in the constantly growing jumbo mortgage market. Mr. Landers is a graduate of The Citadel. He is active in the Historic Charleston Foundation, The Preservation Society, The School of the Building Arts, the Carolina Yacht Club, and other civic organizations in the Charleston community.
Dean Lang is Atlantic Bank and Trust's Chief Lending Officer. Mr. Lang is an experienced banker with 13 years of experience in the following key positions of responsibility, Retail Banking Lending and Management, Small Business Lending and Management, Commercial Lending and Portfolio Management, and Mortgage Lending. Mr. Lang had been involved in every aspect of the lending function from retail to commercial to mortgage. He has large and regional bank experience in the Charleston and Myrtle Beach markets with nationally chartered banks. Mr. Lang is an undergraduate of The Citadel and holds an MBA from Charleston Southern University. He currently serves on the Board of Camp Good Times, a summer camp for autistic children.
Darrell Owenby is a Charleston area real estate investor and developer in both commercial and residential properties. He previously owned a Domino's Pizza franchise including 14 Charleston area locations. He sold his restaurant business 4 years ago and retired. He and his wife of 6 years, Michelle and 1-year old son, Nate are active members of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and their favorite charity is Camp Merry Times. His hobbies include sport fishing, golf, working out, reading and snow skiing. He also spends much of his time with his parents, Richard & Pearl and his mother-in-law, Janice. Owenby's experience and connections in the Mt. Pleasant, Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes communities will be instrumental into opening these areas for the Banks potential prospect / client development.
